Durante esta temporada de Adviento esperamos que aquellos que visiten esta página tomen un tiempo para orar con las lecturas de la Misa dominical y compartir que es lo que les dice esta lectura añadiendo un comentario al ¨post¨ con la lecturas. First Sunday of Advent

This Sunday we begin the liturgical new year with the First Sunday of Advent. During the Advent season we prepare for the birth of Christ in Christmas. We invite and encourage you to enter the story this year. How will Advent 2008 be different? How will you prepare to celebrate Jesus' birth on Christmas Day?

Soon we will place links to different Advent resources on the left sidebar so be sure to look out for those. Also, please make note of the following events that will be taking place in our parish during the Advent season:

• December 4-Tajci concert at 7 p.m. in the church (to learn more about Tacji go to http://www.idobelieve.com/)
• December 6-Bilingual Posada at 6 p.m. in the Parish Hall (This is a combination of two traditional celebrations done in some Hispanic countries in preparation for Christmas. We will be reenacting Mary and Joseph seeking a place to stay upon their arrival in Bethlehem, followed by prayer, Christmas carols and food. It is a beautiful way for people of all ages to come together in preparation for Christmas! We hope you can make it and ask that you bring some food to share with others!)
• December 14-An African Christmas from 4-5:30 p.m. in the Cafeteria (Fr. Camillus will show us a video and speak about how Christmas is celebrated in Africa)

During this Advent season we will be posting links to the Sunday readings so that you may read them, pray with them and share with others what they speak to you. Try to take some time before the Sunday Mass to prayerfully read the Scriptures with an open mind and heart. You may want to focus on just one of the readings or pray with the First Reading one day, the Psalm another day and so on. After you read the passage, reflect on it. The following questions may help:

• What does this passage say to me?
• Do I identify with any of the characters in this passage? Who and why?
• What can I learn from this passage?
• Are there any particular words that stand out for me?

Share with God what this passage speaks to you and whatever else may be in your heart. We invite you to then share with the rest of us about your prayer experience and what the readings say to you by posting a comment to this entry.

Este domingo celebramos el Primer Domingo de Adviento. Durante el tiempo de adviento nos preparamos para el nacimiento de Cristo en la Navidad. Les invitamos a ¨entrar en la historia¨ este año. ¿Cómo será diferente Adviento 2008? ¿Cómo te prepararás para celebrar el nacimiento de Cristo el Día de Navidad?

Pronto tendremos recursos de adviento en la parte derecha de esta página así que estén pendientes. Por favor tomen nota de los siguientes eventos que se realizarán en nuestra parroquia durante el tiempo de adviento:

• 4 de diciembre-concierto Tacji a las 7 p.m. en la iglesia (para más información acerca de Tacji vayan a su página http://www.idobelieve.com/)
• 6 de diciembre-Posada/Novena a las 6 p.m. en el salón parroquial (Esta es una combinación de tradiciones de algunos países hispanos en preparación para Navidad. Como María y José buscaremos posada y a continuación rezaremos, cantaremos villancicos y comeremos! Es una manera bonita para que personas de todas las edades se unan en este tiempo de preparación a la Navidad. ¡Esperamos que puedan venir y les pedimos que por favor traigan un platillo para compartir con los demás!)
• 14 de diciembre-Una Navidad Africana de 4 a 5:30 p.m. en la cafetería. El Padre Camillus compartirá con nosotros como se celebra la navidad en Africa. Esta presentación será en inglés.

Durante este tiempo de adviento estaremos incluyendo enlaces para las lecturas dominicales cada semana para que las puedas leer, reflexionar y compartir con los demás cómo te hablan. Trata de tomar un tiempo antes de la Misa dominical para leer las escrituras con el corazón y la mente abiertas. Quizá deseas concentrarte más en una lectura, o a lo mejor orar con la primera lectura un día, el salmo responsorial otro, etc. Después de leer cada pasaje, reflexiona sobre él. Les sugerimos las siguientes preguntas para la reflexión:

• ¿Qué me dice este pasaje?
• ¿Me identifico con algún personaje en el pasaje? ¿Con cuál? ¿Porqué?
• ¿Qué puedo aprender de este pasaje?
• ¿Hay algunas palabras específicas que me hablan?

Comparte con Dios que te dice el pasaje y cualquier otra cosa que tengas en tu corazón. Te invitamos a que después compartas acerca de tu experiencia orando con estas lecturas y lo que significan para ti añadiendo un comentario a este ¨post.¨

Happy New Year!

This Sunday we begin the new liturgical year. While we usually celebrate New Year's on January 1st, the Church celebrates the beginning of the Church year on the First Sunday of Advent. We are all familiar with the seasons of fall, winter, spring and summer. Different seasons also characterize the liturgical year. These seasons are Advent, Christmas, Ordinary Time, Lent, Triduum and Easter, and each of these seasons has its own liturgical color. The liturgical calendar follows a three year cycle; these are cycles A, B and C and we focus on a specific Gospel throughout each cycle:

• Year A-Matthew
• Year B-Mark
• Year C-Luke

We are now entering Year B so most of the Gospel readings we will be listening to on Sundays throughout this liturgical year will come from the Gospel of Mark.

Below is a liturgical calendar prepared by the Middle School Youth Group which shows us the different seasons of the year, the colors associated with those seasons, and special dates in those seasons. If you click it it will enlarge.

Este domingo comenzamos el nuevo año litúrgico. Mientras que usualmente celebramos el Año Nuevo el 1 de enero, la Iglesia celebra el comienzo del año litúrgico el primer domingo de adviento. Todos conocemos las estaciones de otoño, invierno, primavera y verano. Diferentes estaciones/tiempos también caracterizan al año litúrgico. Estos son los tiempos de adviento, navidad, tiempo ordinario, cuaresma, triduo pascual y pascua, y cada uno de estos tiempos tiene un color que lo caracteriza. El calendario litúrgico sigue un ciclo de tres años; estos son los años A, B y C, y nos enfocamos en un evangelio cada año:

• Año A-Mateo
• Año B-Marcos
• Año C-Lucas

Estamos comenzando el Año B así que la mayoría de las lecturas de los evangelios que escucharemos los domingos de este año vendrán del evangelio según San Marcos. A continuación hay un calendario litúrgico preparado por el grupo juvenil de 6 a 8 grados que nos muestra los diferentes tiempos del año litúrgico, los colores asociados con esos tiempos, y fechas especiales en esos tiempos. Si lo pinchan con su ratón se hará más grande.

Thanksgiving Celebration

On Sunday Nov. 23 we had our annual Thanksgiving Celebration. We gave thanks to God for the many blessings in our lives and ate some very delicious food. May all have a wonderful Thanksgiving Day! There will be a 10 a.m. Mass at the parish on Thanksgiving Day. The word Eucharist literally means Thanksgiving...what more appropriate way to celebrate this day. We invite you to write what you are thankful for on the graffiti wall prepared by the Middle School Youth Group which is located at the pavilion.

El domingo 23 de noviembre tuvimos nuestra celebración anual del Día de Acción de Gracias. Dimos gracias a Dios por las bendiciones en nuestras vidas y comimos comida deliciosa. ¡Les deseamos a todos un feliz Día de Acción de Gracias! Habrá una Misa a las 10 a.m. en la parroquia el Día de Acción de Gracias. La palabra Eucaristía significa Acción de Gracias...qué manera más apropiada para celebrar este día. Les invitamos a que escriban las cosas por las cuales están agradecidos en la cartulina grande preparada por el grupo juvenil de 6 a 8 grados localizada en el pabellón.

Young Adults

Did you know there are various things going on around our Diocese for young adults? This past month there was a Young Adult Coffeehouse at Sacred Heart in Lake Worth and Theology on Tap at Beef O'Bradys in Royal Palm Beach. The pictures above are from Theology on Tap. The next coffeehouse will probably be in January and the next Theology on Tap in December. We'll post information on our calendar as soon as we get it. Youth Day Celebration

On Sunday Nov. 9th we had a great time at our Youth Day Celebration! Great weather, delicious food, and fun games...what else could we ask for? We had a youth vs. adults kickball game won by the adults! However, the youth were the champions of both the tug-of-war and soccer game! Some shared their talent (real and imagined) singing karaoke. We also had a water gun fight. Thanks to all who participated and contributed to our first Youth Day Celebration!

El domingo 9 de noviembre lo pasamos muy bien en nuestro Día Juvenil. Tiempo bueno, comida deliciosa, y juegos divertidos...¿qué más hace falta? Tuvimos un juego de kickball en el cual ganaron los adultos. Sin embargo, los jóvenes fueron los campeones del tug-of-war y el juego de futbol. Algunos compartieron su talento cantando y también tuvimos una pelea con pistolitas de agua. Gracias a todos los que participaron y contribuyeron a nuestro primer Día Juvenil.
